At the ceremonial vote of Michigan’s Electoral College
members on Monday, everything went smoothly until this: It was discovered that
Secretary of State Ruth Johnson’s office had misspelled the president’s name on
the official document certifying the vote.
The text of the document said that the 16 Electors cast
their ballots for “Barak” Obama for president of the United States.
According to state Sen. Steve Bieda, a Warren Democrat, the
mistake was noticed by Senate Minority
Leader Gretchen Whitmer, who presided over the ceremonial session. Bieda,
who was the assistant presiding officer, said the fix was made and someone out
there named Barak Obama did not accidentally get Michigan’s 16 electoral votes
An avid history buff and a supporter of Barack Obama, Bieda
said the blunder by Johnson’s office will now serve as a “tiny bit of Electoral
College history.”

Peggy Ciaramitaro served as the 12th/9th
District elector while James Winne was the representative from the 10th
District.
Btw: An interesting future debate on the Electoral College may
be stirred up by state Rep.
Pete Lund, the Shelby Township Republican who chairs the House Elections
and Redistricting Committee. Lund told Gongwer News Service that he will reintroduce
legislation to end Michigan’s winner-take-all approach and instead award the
state’s electors based largely on the presidential election results in each
opf the 14 congressional districts.
Since Obama will not be contesting the next election, isn't this a case of shutting the stable door when the horse has already bolted. Don't you Republicans have a sense of equity. When you can't win fairly, must you CHEAT. Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteYou tamper with the rules at your peril. Since the foumding of Michigan, it has always been winner takes all. Find a candidate and policies that can win elections, instead of this third world attempt to rig the presidential elections. We are better than that.
