Beware of BS statistics about shooting sprees

There are a lot of BS statistics making the rounds out there about guns and gun violence today.
Apparently taking their cue from the National Review, many gun-rights supporters have taken to social media sites to say that the peak for mass killings in the U.S. came in 1929 and that mass shootings are not a major concern because they're no more common than in past decades.

Come on – talk about misleading stats.

First, the Sandy Hook slaughter, with 27 dead, is at No. 2 on the list of worst school shootings in U.S. history, behind only the Virginia Tech massacre of 2007, where 32 were killed. (These numbers include the shooters who killed themselves.) Of the 12 most deadly school massacres in the nation’s history, seven have occurred since the Columbine tragedy of 1999, which has now been bumped down to No. 4 on the list.
