In case you missed it ...
A new poll released this morning shows four potential
Democratic candidates topping Gov. Rick Snyder in
hypothetical match-ups for the 2014 gubernatorial race as the governor's job approval ratings have plummeted in just one month.
In the wake of the controversial lame-duck session in the Legislature and Snyder's risky signing of a right-to-work law, just 38 percent of voters polled approve of the Republican governor's job performance and 56 percent disapprove.
That compares to a month ago, when 47 percent of voters approved of Snyder while 37 percent disapproved, according to Public Policy Polling.
Though none of the
Democrats mentioned in the PPP poll have strong name recognition, some bested Snyder by double digits.
If Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, whom Mr. Snyder defeated
in a 2010 landslide, were the Democratic nominee, he would win this time by a 49 percent to 38 percent margin, if the election were held over the last few days.
Congressman Gary Peters of Bloomfield Township, who appears to be the early favorite among Democrats for 2014, scored 47
percent to 39 percent for Snyder in the PPP survey.
State Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer of East Lansing, who was very vocal during the lame-duck, was at 46 percent to 38 percent for Snyder. And former congressman Mark Schauer of Battle Creek had 44 percent to 39 percent
for the incumbent.
Additionally, those surveyed said they oppose the
right-to-work law, 51 percent to 41 percent.
Snyder's standing with the voters will almost certainly take another dive if he signs the bill that would allow concealed weapons in schools.
