At an 11th-hour Get Out The Vote event in Macomb County this morning, an upbeat Attorney General Bill Schuette was in a Jimmy Cliff kinda mood.
As he fired up the troops on hand at the Macomb GOP headquarters in Utica, he slipped in some (spoken) inspirational lyrics sung by Cliff, as in:
I can see clearly now the rain is gone.
I can see all obstacles in my way.
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind.
(Tomorrow is) gonna be a bright, bright
bright bright sunshiny day
Actually, the song was written by Johnny Nash, who turned it into a No. 1 hit in 1972. The remake by Cliff, a reggae artist, appeared on the 1993 soundtrack for the movie "Cool Runnings" and that version also reached the Top 20 on the Billboard charts.
When the election returns come in tomorrow night, I'm pretty sure the AG is hoping for No. 1, not anything less.
