Casandra vs. Carl at State Board of Ed forum

Ulbrich

Carl
The Macomb Intermediate School District has just announced a public forum next Tuesday featuring the four major party candidates running for two seats on the state Board of Education.
That race features incumbent Democrat Casandra Ulbrich, a Macomb Community College vice president, and Republican challenger Maria Carl, a longtime conservative activist in Macomb County.
The Macomb County Association of School Boards will sponsor the candidate forum, which starts at 7:30 p.m. and will be held in Clinton Township. This year's state Board of Ed race has taken on an importance probably not seen for decades as state Superintendent Mike Flanagan prepares to step down and the board will choose his replacement. In addition, some board members, led by Ulbrich, support a crackdown on lax regulations for charter schools.
The other candidates running for the board in November are Democrat Pamela Smith and Republican Jonathon Williams.
Members of the audience will be allowed to ask questions of the candidates. The event is slated for the Macomb Intermediate School District building at 44001 Garfield, just south of M-59. For more information, call (586) 228-3308.
