Protesters greet GOP lawmakers again at the Capitol

Union protesters and Democratic Party officials organized an in-your-face greeting for Republican legislators in Lansing this morning, forming a "walk of shame" for lawmakers as they entered the Capitol for their first day of the 2013-14 session.
The protesters, perhaps numbering more than 200, carried placards, each with a huge photo of one GOP lawmaker and the word “Shame” plastered across the picture. One demonstrator reportedly held a a sign that that read “Thanks Snyder for the $1,500 pay cut” – a reference to the new right-to-work law and a projection of what that new workplace rule will mean for wages.

Democratic lawmakers received cheers; Republicans were booed.

The Democratic Party offered so-called tea party membership cards to the Republicans, which the Dems said reflects the GOP’s “extreme agenda,” including new taxes for retirees, tax cuts for corporations, funding reductions for K-12 schools, new abortion clinic regulations and, of course, right-to-work.
"When you look at the agenda of Lansing Republicans, it is the extreme Tea Party agenda,” said Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer.

The protesters, organized by the liberal group We Are Michigan, will be delivering fresh cookies to legislators who "voted to defend the middle class." Those who favored corporate special interests, the group said in a statement, “will be given a bag of crumbs to showcase how their votes are crumbling Michigan’s middle class."

Let the games begin.
