NRA wants background checks of reporters attending press conference

The NRA’s highly anticipated press conference on Friday laid down an unusual, outdated request for news reporters planning to cover the event.
The association, which is expected to address the Sandy Hook school massacre, said they are limiting press coverage to those reporters who can prove their status through a request for attendance written on company letterhead. Please fax your request, the media was told.
Numerous reporters immediately had a field day with the demand, according to media critic Jim Romanesko.

More proof than you need to buy a weapon or ammo online, one said.

The best replies: also please type request on a Corona (typewriter); and please show press fedora too; they’re probably in bed with the resurgent and powerful “fax lobby;” apparently the NRA has never heard of Photoshop or email; credentials for the 1985 annual mtg? and better than “shoot us an email.”
