Chamber study says 64,000 shale oil jobs in Michigan by 2020

Consider the source but the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has just produced a report that claims Michigan will have 64,500 jobs related to the shale oil business by 2020.
Some on the left will trash this report but 64,000 jobs is an audacious assessment. Especially for a state that has never been linked to shale oil production.

The second phase of a comprehensive new study co-sponsored by the chamber’s Institute for 21st Century Energy was released this week, projecting the benefits of "shale energy" on a state-by-state basis.  Part one of the report, which focused on the national economic impact of shale energy exploration and production benefits, was released last month.
According to the study, shale production has already created more than 37,800 "direct, indirect and induced jobs" in Michigan and is projected to support 64,500 jobs by 2020.  In addition, the institute asserts that shale energy development will generate $421 million in state and local government revenue in 2012 alone, and from 2012-2035 could generate $16.3 billion in state and local government revenue.
On a national scale, the report predicts that America will have 3.5 million shale-related jobs by 2035.

“Shale energy is a game-changer for America and for Michigan,” said Karen Harbert, president and CEO of the Energy Institute.  “The latest installment of this study allows us to quantify just how significant the impact on both state and the national economy will be.  It provides all the more reason to strongly support responsible shale energy development.”
