Watch out Wisconsin workers, Gov. Scott Walker has called the right-to-work issue a "distraction." That was the exact wording that Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder relied upon for two years when he pushed aside questions about whether he would support right-to-work legislation.
What Wisconsin union workers should consider is this: If lawmakers in Michigan, birthplace of the labor movement, can adopt right-to-work legislation, as they did on Thursday, what state is immune from a right-to-work movement?
The Green Bay Post Gazette reported the other day that Walker, who won a fierce battle with the Wisconsin unions over collective bargaining rights, deflected questions about the happenings in Michigan.
Here's a portion of their report:
"Among potential distractions are controversial policy proposals -- such as right-to-work legislation -- that have not been introduced (in the legislature). Asked
about if he’d sign right-to-work legislation, Walker said he doesn’t
issue any veto threats, but said it would be “too huge of a distraction
from the priorities I’ve set.”
