Ted Wahby better for Warren than Mayor Fouts?

At a Macomb County board meeting this morning Republican Commissioner Roland Fraschetti of St. Clair Shores delivered high praise for county Treasurer Ted Wahby.
Wahby, a St. Clair Shores Democrat, appeared before the Board of Commissioners to answer questions about his proposed 2013 budget. But Fraschetti turned the topic over to the treasurer's successful efforts to auction off dozens or even hundreds of forfeited homes in bulk to housing rehab specialists rather than sell them piecemeal to the public.

Putting those homes in the hands of professionals who will repair/upgrade them and put them back on the market, back on the tax rolls, amounts to a highly effective anti-blight program, said Fraschetti, who is in the home rental business.

The city of Warren previously handled their forfeitures -- those caused by the homeowners' failure to pay property taxes -- but several years ago agreed to let Wahby administer the matter, as do most Macomb County communities.

"You are doing a fantastic job of clearing up the blight in Warren. Aren't you doing a better job of preventing blight in Warren than the city is, than Mayor (Jim) Fouts is?" Fraschetti asked the treasurer.

Wahby wouldn't bite, responding with praise for his staff without engaging in criticism of Fouts.
Wahby avoided the wrath of the Warren mayor, but I suspect Fraschetti surely will not.
