Ret. Gen. Gus Hargett, president of the National Guard Association of the United States, was in town today (Chesterfield Township) to present the prestigious Truman Award to Congresswoman Candy Miller.
Hargett served nine years as the National Guard commander (adjutant general) in Tennessee and has served the past three years as president of the Washington-based NGAUS. He expressed pleasure at getting out of Washington and noted that too many members of Congress talk a good game "and do nothin.'"
Then he added this:
"Washington is a place where your friends come and go, and your enemies multiply."
