In the wake of President Obama’s pronouncement that he
now supports same-sex marriage, some of the more outlandish reactions in the
Bible Belt and other parts of rural America are starting to reach the media.
One preacher in Kansas told his congregation that Obama
has gone too far and it’s now time for the federal government to systematically
kill gay men and lesbian women.
Another minister in North Carolina, who referred to Obama
as a “baby killer and homosexual lover,” gave a sermon in which he advocated
rounding up the nation’s gay population in concentration camps and keeping them
there until death.

Pastor Curtis Knapp of Seneca, Kansas, told his congregants
that Obama’s declaration that same-sex couples should have the same marital
rights as heterosexual couples amounted to “the leader of the Western world
publicly raising his fist at the heavens” and declaring a “legally protected
justification for perversion.”
According to rawstory.com, Knapp read a
Bible passage that calls homosexuality a “detestable act”
and says that those who engage in same-sex relations “shall surely be put to death.” The
minister agreed, rawstory reported, and then he engaged in a commentary that
anticipated criticism of his views:
“They should be put to death. ‘Oh, so you’re saying we should go out and start
killing them, no?’ -- I’m saying the government should. They won’t, but they
should.
“You say, ‘Oh, I can’t believe you, you’re horrible.
You’re a backwards Neanderthal of a person.’ Is that what you’re calling
scripture? Is God a Neanderthal, backwards in his morality? Is it His word or
not? If it’s His word, he commanded it. It’s His idea, not mine. And I’m not
ashamed of it.
“He said put them to death. Shall the church drag them
in? No, I’m not saying that. The church has not been given the power of the
sort; the government has. But the government ought to (kill them). You got a
better idea? A better idea than God?”
Meanwhile, a Baptist minister in Catawba County, N.C.,
offered a slightly different idea for dealing with what some call “the gay
problem.”
The Rev. Charles Worley,
citing Biblical passages, urged his congregation to support his idea of taking gays
into custody and locking them in confinement. According to the Kansas City
Star, he advocated building a large fence, 100 or 150
miles long, with lesbians detained in
one area, and “the queers and the homosexuals in
another, and have that fence electrified, so they can't get out."
A YouTube video of the sermon shows
Worley talking about his ultimate goal: "Feed 'em, and you know what? In a
few years, they'll die. Do you know why? They can't reproduce."
Some members of the congregation can
be heard saying "Amen" in response to the pastor's remarks.

Worley here.

Imprison the gays? Ludicrous. Why waste time? They should just be shot on sight.
