As has become common practice for the Macomb County executive when making public appearances, Mark Hackel had a joke ready to go on Friday when he addressed the people gathered to name the peregrine falcon chicks nesting on a ledge at the top of the old County Building in downtown Mount Clemens. When a DNR official praised the county for helping to restore the peregrine population, Hackel replied:
"We provide a facility for dangerous jailbirds, so why not provide a place for endangered birds?"
