U.S. Capitol on lockdown after shooting

According to The Hill, the U.S. Capitol and visitor center are on lockdown after an apparent suicide on the west side of the Capitol building.

U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman Kimberly Schneider said the suspected shooter had been "neutralized" by a “self-inflicted gunshot,” but the building remained on lockdown as a precaution "due to a potential security threat."

 

Police are also investigating a suspicious package left on the lower West Terrace of the Capitol building, Schneider told The Hill. 

NBC News in Washington reports the package is the suitcase of the shooter.
