Courser read an online story that was an obvious April Fool's joke and thought it was real. The Lapeer Republican even commented on Facebook about the story and "shared" it after swallowing this tall tale.
The story posted by Word On The Street claimed that water from Lake Superior would be pumped to the parched state of Arizona. That, of course, would be huge news all across Michigan, if true.
But the author dropped lots of hints along the way to let his readers in on the joke.
All the silly references apparently went right over Courser's head.
One official who is quoted in the story is named I.M. Lyon. Another is Dr. Yuri Dikkalus. There's also a comment from "Assistant State Hydrologist Flo Freeley."
If those clues (and many others) were not clear enough, there's this: "A test flow through the Lake Superior pipeline is scheduled for April 31. Full scale operations will start June 31."
The article facetiously reports that 440 billion gallons -- that's billions, not millions -- of water will be pumped to Arizona monthly. The cost? $1 per 1,000 gallons.
The prank story quotes a grateful greens-keeper at an Arizona golf course who says anybody visiting from Michigan will get a free round of golf. The greens-keeper's name is Sandy Greenze. The course is called Caca Grande. Near the town of Los Cajones.
Here was Courser's reaction:
"Hmmmm? Seems like a lot...Not sure how accurate this story is, honestly not sure how accurate anything on the Internet really is, but how do you feel about 440 billion gallons of water per month being taken from Lake Superior?"
Uh ... yes, Todd, that is quite a lot. Apparently more than you can comprehend.

Talk about Caca Grande . . .
ReplyDeleteHow is one "fooled" when the post states, "Not sure how accurate this story is, honestly not sure how accurate anything on the Internet really is,"
ReplyDeleteCompare and contrast, no dispute that reporters are fooled everytime Hillary Clinton speaks and they report her statements as true.
"honestly not sure how accurate anything on the Internet really is"
ReplyDeleteHis keeper from Americans For Prosperity must have been taking a leak.
this guy is as clueless and delusional as Warren mayoral "candidate" Hawke Fracassa. He of the infamous 2014 campaign for State Senate while living in Wyoming!! Talk about a "mulligan" - the voters haven't forgotten that insult to their intelligence.
