| Michigan's Latino motto: If you seek an unwelcome immigrant, look about you. |
The folks at FreakOutNation report that an attempt to create a Vermont state motto in Latin brought a flood of over-the-top criticism by those who refuse to have their state bow to the wishes of Latinos. You can't make this stuff up.
Here's FreakOut Nation's report:
The motto “Stella quarta decima fulgeat” which translates to “May the fourteenth star shine bright,” was suggested.
Naturally, conservative(s) lost their sh-- because those danged "ferriners" in Latino countries are not going to take their country, dammit."
WCAX reported on the issue and added it to their Facebook page and that garnered 722 comments so far.
Another media outlet, If You Only News, reports:
Senator Benning told the Vermont Political Observer in an email:
I anticipated suffering the backroom internal joking from my colleagues in the legislature. What I did not anticipate was the vitriolic verbal assault from those who don’t know the difference between the Classics and illegal immigrants from South America.
Back to FreakOutNation: Conservatives have had it. Some are calling for them to “Go back to where you came from.”
Build that danged fence and let’s keep the Latin people out.
Charles Topher at If You Only News complied a list of the comments and labeled them as: Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest. But really, all of them will make you feel like a Mensa member.
I say, Latin, Latino -- what's the difference? After all, we have a Latino pope who speaks Latin, right? Right?
