GOP rep battles with Sharpton for least articulate

State Rep. Holly Hughes is off to a bit of a rough start after winning a House seat in western Michigan last fall.
In her effort to get her office and staff organized, Hughes put out a job posting seeking a legislative “assistant.” This electronic help-wanted ad described all the professional qualities and skills needed to win the job, but it was topped off by a large bold headline that simply said, Legislative Assitant.
The job description called for someone who excels at “constituent relations (and) language art skills.” Maybe Hughes, a former school board member from the Muskegon area, would have appeared more straightforward if she simply stated that she needs somebody on her staff who knows how to spell and proofread.

One would expect more from Hughes, who once held the lofty position of Republican National Committee member, a post that is only awarded by the GOP to the likes of people such as Dave Agema.
Perhaps Hughes, who narrowly regained her seat after losing re-election in 2012, will take on the role in the Republican caucus as the Al Sharpton of the House GOP.

Sharpton, of course, is the civil rights leader (follower?) who routinely trips on his words when hosting his MSNBC cable show. The reverend’s lack of articulation is so comically consistent that it inspired a recurring Saturday Night Live skit.
The other night, Sharpton was discussing Obamacare and he put on the screen a graphic that demonstrated how many people have “enroleld” in the ACA. Now, a member of his staff likely put together that on-screen atrocity, but Sharpton just kept on talking, without even acknowledging the glaring typo.
Maybe he didn’t notice. But it’s clear that “the rev” desperately needs someone on his staff who knows how to spell. Perhaps he and Hughes could go in 50-50 on an ad that gets down to the basics: Spellchecker Needed.

Of course, the easier way might be for someone to alert these two that new-fangled computers these days have a button that spellchecks for you.
