Now, this is gonna be good.
The people of Warren (and political junkies everywhere) may be treated to the most entertaining mayoral campaign imaginable if Wyoming's own Hawke Fracassa follows through on a delusional plan to challenge Mayor Jim Fouts in 2015.
Fracassa, who has run for nearly every office imaginable in his hometown of Warren, has now set his sights on mayor.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Fracassa (aka E. Dale Lee) said he is considering a run against Fouts due to the "traction" he gained in last week's state Senate election. That's the election in which Fracassa maintained his spot on the ballot as a 9th District (southern Macomb) candidate while he has been living 1,600 miles away, in Cody, Wyoming, since July.
Under the circumstances, Fracassa said his landslide loss, in which he secured less than one-third of the vote in a race against Sen. Steve Bieda, was encouraging. In his FB post he sounded particularly pleased when he said:
"In fact,
Mayor Fouts predicted in a rant on television that I would get between 0%-10% of the vote on election night. He was dead wrong."
I will grant him this: Fracassa probably garnered more votes by a Wyoming resident in a Macomb County election than at any time in history. (Of course, some would say he made fools of the Macomb voters.)
While this character is already pushing a Fracassa for Mayor message, the reality is that he seems to be engaged in an endless effort to land a political job, even though he is terrible at politics.
Fracassa has now run unsuccessfully for Warren City Council, state representative, Warren Woods school board, county commissioner and state Senate, all in the rather narrow timeframe from 2007-14.
On Facebook, Fracassa, a journalist, demonstrated a dumbfounding lack of knowledge about elections. He mentioned that he received 7,800 votes in the Republican primary in August (when he was running unopposed) but he bumped that up to 23,000 votes on Nov. 4.
What he fails to understand (unless this is part of his shtick) is that the number of ballots cast in the 9th District more than tripled in the general election compared to the low, low turnout primary. In fact, his vote total last week, on a proportional basis of all votes cast, was actually worse than in August.
So much for his "traction" sales pitch.
His prior spiel was that he was working on "temporary assignment" at the Cody Enterprise, a twice-weekly newspaper, until after the election. I guess that temporary status will now be extended into 2015.
When the Senate candidate's absence from Michigan was revealed last month by the MIRS news service, Fracassa explained: "I came out here to make money ... what are you going to do, not eat?"
But in his Facebook post on Sunday, he said that he owns two Warren homes, which doesn't sound like the kind of lifestyle lived by someone who is ready to travel to the middle of nowhere to land a job.
"No one will tell me what to do. My campaign (for mayor) can be from Warren or Wyoming because there is no rule that says candidates have to sleep every night in the primary house they own," he said.
And then he added this: "I appreciate the well wishes and support. Many people want to see Warren Mayor Jim Fouts retire quietly. His bullying will be a thing of the past when he is defeated in 2015 by the Fracassa for Mayor team."
Either way, with these two in the running, Election Night would likely bring a concession speech outburst that would make Howard Dean's 2004 screed sound like a hushed librarian. Both Fouts and Fracassa are known for hot tempers and filthy language.
If the election ends in a tie, these two could settle the race in a swear-off. Counting up the F-bombs would take a whole team of election workers.
Yes, Fouts needs to be defeated, but he is not the man to do it. Warren needs credible and viable candidates to run against Fouts. But, if it were between these two, I would actually vote for Hawke, I don't think he would throw the residents of the city under the bus like Fouts has.
ReplyDeleteHaha...the Fracassa team: me, myself and I. What a hoot!!

DeleteHe also fails to mention that he got the same percentage of votes as most Republicans running in Macomb County....does he know what a straight ticket vote is?
