What's with Terri Lynn Land and that ring on her finger?

When Republican Senate candidate Terri Lynn Land appeared before The Macomb Daily editorial board earlier this week, she answered queries on a variety of issues without any difficulties or hesitation.
But then came this question: "Why do you have your ring inverted like that?"
The out-of-the-blue question drew chuckles from all on hand. It came from reporter/editor Mitch Hotts who, it should be noted, is an astute observer of human behavior after covering hundreds of crime scenes and court hearings. Hotts noted that Land's wedding ring was twisted 180 degrees so that the substantial diamond could not be seen.

Land explained that she routinely turns her ring upside down because she has, on too many occasions, damaged furniture with the diamond setting.
"You have a pretty table here and I don't want to dent your table," she said. "I've dented a lot of tables."
Sure, this sounds like a trivial issue. But there are two things about Land's response that are bit screwy.
One, The Macomb Daily conference table is topped with an artificial veneer and it could not be dented without the assistance of a hammer.

More importantly, Land's explanation made no sense. If someone was trying to avoid damage to wood furniture, the last thing they would do is twist their ring so that the setting makes constant contact with the table they're sitting at.
An amateur psychologist might reach the conclusion that Land, who has been portrayed in a negative sense as one of the richest Senate candidates in the nation, wants to hide her wedding ring as much as possible.
A political analysis of this situation could reasonably conclude that, when caught off guard by a very basic query, Land reflexively fumbled the question and manufactured a ridiculous answer.
A microcosm, anyone?

  1. To be wasting time and press on this is ludicrous. It seems only appropriate that she manufactured a ridiculous answer since it was such a ridiculous question. The fact that Hotts asked that question for no other reason than to make her look stupid does nothing more than make him look stupid. It most certainly doesn't add credence to him being astute.

  2. Chad as an insurance agent I can tell you that it does stop one from scratching and hooking on to things. It also shields the diamond from getiing loose from bumping into things. Good agents alwaysgive their clients tips on how mitigate against potential losses. As much as she travels for this campaign, it was a smart move on her part.

  3. I'm sure this place doesn't come cheap, but it's well worth it for memorable and impressive occasions. Their food is absolutely delicious and the service is top notch.

  4. Well, I can't possibly vote for someone who makes decisions about things that don't concern me or effect me in any way ..to think I almost voted for such a person. It's just like that Gary Peters who is too cheap to pay people to be in his commercial leaving union workers out of a desperately needed job.

  5. This is why the general public hates the press. And I am not a Land supporter.
