Randell Shafer, Macomb County's version of Dave Agema, reared his ugly head again on Facebook in recent days, defending Agema's use of the term "camel jockeys" to describe Arabs.
Once again, Shafer's chief antagonist was former campaign consultant Joe Munem of Sterling Heights, who is of Middle East descent on his father's side of the family and who is a Presbyterian.

What ensued was two days of a back-and-forth Facebook battle that added up to 317 posts. In fact, a few additions were tacked onto the thread earlier this morning.
Shafer chimed in to defend Agema and he offered this truly tasteless remark: "Not all camel jockeys are Arab. Most of them are very little infidels forced to ride by evil Arab slave masters. So, Dave (Agema) has it right. The camel jockeys probably can't reach the pedal or see over the instrument panels" in a plane.
He repeatedly called Munem "Mohammed Munem" and suggested his chief critic should be viewed as a possible member of the ISIS terrorist group.
A St. Clair Shores Republican, Shafer is best known in Macomb County as a candidate who ran twice for Congress and twice for County Executive -- and got crushed at the general election (in the August primary this year) each time.
But in political circles across the state, he has made a name for himself by making bizarre and bigoted comments on Facebook. His detractors have included a number of political pundits and activists.
Shafer, 50, first unloaded online in January with his own version of ugly homophobic and Muslim-hating commentary. Some his Shaferisms: “Full of crap … queers … socialists … mental midget … dope … blowhard tub of donkey glue.”
After getting blowback from fellow Republicans, he rejected outright several suggestions that he should apologize:
“When radical Muslims and homosexuals hold hands and sway back and forth around a camp fire singing kumbaya...that is when I apologize.”
