Congresswoman
Candice Miller today announced support for the effort by House Republicans to
defund Obamacare.
The
Harrison Township Republican earlier today said that she will vote for a
resolution that will continue funding the government through fiscal year 2014
but will delay and block funding for Obamacare.
It
remains to be seen if the House GOP can outmaneuver the Senate Democrats and
successfully tie an Obamacare defunding provision to a continuing resolution
that would avoid a government shutdown on Oct. 1.
In
addition, many analysts believe the president has the authority to dodge any
legislative machinations designed to pull the plug on the Jan. 1 start of
Obamacare.
Here
is a portion of what Miller said:
“Today
I informed my colleague, Rep. Tom Graves (R-Georgia) that I will join him when
the House reconvenes on Monday as a cosponsor of H.J. Res. 62, the Stability,
Security and Fairness Resolution, a measure that will provide for the funding
of the government for the entire 2014 fiscal year at the level mandated by the
sequester, prioritizes funding for national security and veterans and, most
importantly, provides fairness for every American by defunding and delaying
ObamaCare until 2015.
“Earlier
this year, Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), one of the primary architects of
ObamaCare, called the implementation of the health care law a ‘train
wreck.’ Since that time the Obama Administration has exempted big
businesses from Obamacare mandates, but the American people will still be
forced to comply with the law’s many mandates which threaten the care they
currently have. Even staunch allies of President Obama are now seeing the
damage this law could inflict.
“Terence
O’Sullivan, president of the Laborers’ International Union of North America,
recently said, ‘If the Affordable Care Act is not fixed and it destroys the
health and welfare funds that we have fought for and stand for, then I believe
it needs to be repealed.’ Three other labor groups including, the
Teamsters Union, sent a letter to Democrat Congressional leaders stating (the
need for a union exemption).
“…
We also have a responsibility to fund the rest of the government with a primary
focus on national security, homeland security and veterans while at the same
time being true to spending controls that have already been agreed to by
Congress in a bipartisan fashion. This bill does all of that and I am
proud to be a co-sponsor of the legislation."
