Rep. Steve LaTourette, an Ohio Republican, said on New Year’s
Day that some of the Senate Republicans who supported the fiscal cliff bill “must
have been drunk” when they voted just a few hours after the stroke of midnight.
But LaTourette wasn’t done bashing his Senate colleagues. As House Republicans
agonized over their vote on the bill, LaTourette took to Twitter to offer this
comment:
“We should not take a package put together by a bunch of
sleep-deprived octogenarians on New Year’s Eve.”
Meanwhile, Sen. Joe Manchin, an old-fashioned Blue Dog
Democrat from West Virginia, had this to say about the fiscal cliff doings in
Washington:
“Something has gone terribly wrong when the biggest threat
to our American economy is the American Congress.”
