Most ridiculous lawsuits of 2012 includes Mich. case at No. 2

The list of the Top 10 Most Ridiculous Lawsuits of 2012 was released on Thursday by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Legal Reform, based on a year's worth of online votes at their website.
At No. 2 on the list is a Michigan woman who filed a $5 million suit for failure to be reimbursed by the repo man for the $29 worth of leftover gas in the tank of her repossessed car.

You can’t make this stuff up.

The No. 1 instance of legal system nonsense went to an intoxicated Florida driver who plead guilty to manslaughter, then sued the family of the victim he killed.
My personal favorite is No. 10 -- Bay Area parents sued their local school after their son was kicked out of honors class for cheating.

The Institute for Legal Reform doesn’t think any of this is funny.
"Abuse of our legal system is no joke, and these examples range from the outrageous to the absurd," said Lisa Rickard, president of the organization, in a statement. "This poll reminds us that as a society, we sue too much. In turn, these abusive lawsuits inflict harm on lives, jobs, and our economic growth."
