Family of six left homeless for holidays by fire needs help

The Fraser Lions Club, stepping up to help a family of six left homeless for the holidays by a house fire, is collecting food, clothing and Christmas gifts for the victims from 4:30 to 10 p.m. today at the club’s Utica Road hall.
According the Fraser Public Safety Department, “The family lost everything -- their clothes, their Christmas presents -- it was a total loss.”
The Tate family was attending a holiday gathering hosted by a relative who lives in the neighborhood at the time and their Woody Street house was unoccupied when the fire ignited in the early-morning hours on Sunday. The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
The Tates include the parents and four children, including a 17-year-old daughter, two sons ages 8 and 9, and another daughter believed to be about 6, according to police and neighbors.
Donations of all kinds can be dropped off at the Lions Club hall located at 34540 Utica, south of 15 Mile Road.
