The same Texas megachurch pastor who
called Mitt Romney’s Mormon religion a “cult” now says that Barack Obama’s
re-election win will bring the reign of the Antichrist.
Robert Jeffress, senior pastor at
the First Baptist Church in Dallas, made his remarks on Sunday prior to the
election, according to The Christian Post.
They certainly shed light on the thinking of the Religious Right.
"I want you to hear me tonight,
I am not saying that President Obama is the Antichrist, I am not saying that at
all. One reason I know he's not the Antichrist is the Antichrist is going to
have much higher poll numbers when he comes," Jeffress said.
"President Obama is not the
Antichrist. But what I am saying is this: The course he is choosing to lead our
nation is paving the way for the future reign of the Antichrist."
The CP reports that Jeffress added this:
"It is time for Christians to stand up and to push back against this evil
that is overtaking our nation."
It should be noted that Jeffress’
absolute faith in his beliefs was tested twice during the presidential campaign and both
times he went squishy. First, he backpedaled on his claim that Mormons are
cultists. Then, he flip-flopped again, endorsing Romney as “the
lesser of two evils” and but insisting, again, that Mormonism is not a Christian
religion.
