In Macomb County, voters casting ballots at Erie
Elementary School in Clinton Township – three precinct polling places – faced
long lines at 6 p.m. snaking through a hot, stuffy lobby. The township had set
up 25 polling booths for the three precincts in the gymnasium/auditorium and
several voters at a time were sitting on the stage filling out their ballots.
Thomas Burnell, who has served at an election official at
the Erie location for 15 years, said the lines were unprecedented.
“This is the biggest election we’ve ever seen,” he said.
