Greg Stone still solid in his support of Steve Thomas for Macomb County Sheriff
Greg Stone, who waged a hard-fought campaign for Macomb County
sheriff in the Democratic primary, is sticking with his support of Republican
nominee Steve Thomas.
The day after the primary election, Stone announced that he was backing
Thomas rather than the Democratic incumbent who beat him, Sheriff Tony
Wickersham. And Thomas announced that he would appoint Stone, a retired Sheriff’s
Department lieutenant, as his No. 2 man, his undersheriff, if he wins election
in November.
Some political observers saw this as sour grapes on Stone’s part and a
gimmick pulled by Thomas. But the relationship has stuck. Stone has been
campaigning for Thomas and over the weekend he posted this on Facebook:
“For those of you that supported me in the sheriff's primary I thank you
for your support and help that you provided. Although we did not win we are
still working to bring fresh ideas with a new administration. I would ask that
you support Steve Thomas in the November election. If you would like a sign or
have a sign location please contact …”
Greg Stone is very serious about backing Steve Thomas. They both have a common goal that the leadership needs to be changed in order to bring the Sheriff's office back to what it is supposed to be...a law enforcement agency and not the political playground that it is now. There are no sour grapes, just a great desire to restore honesty and integrity back into the department. Stone and Thomas have known each other for many years and have been in contact with each other from the time they entered the race.
