Julie Calley running for state rep with her Boy Toy, the Lt. Gov.

The Calleys offer a Christmas message on YouTube.
Julie Calley has decided to run for a state House seat based in Ionia County and she will occasionally be hitting the campaign trail with some “eye candy” at her side – her husband, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley.
When asked by the MIRS news service what role her high-profile hubby will play in her campaign, Julie Calley offered this playful response: “babysitter, supportive spouse, and occasional eye candy at district events.”

The Second Lady of Michigan is seeking the seat that Brian Calley held prior to becoming Rick Snyder’s running mate in 2010 and winning election as lieutenant governor. Julie Calley has already snagged the whole-hearted endorsement of the term-limited incumbent, Mike Callton, in the 87th House District, which also encompasses Barry County.

The obvious frontrunner for the seat, Julie Calley currently serves in several Ionia County positions as a member of the Board of Commissioners, Community Mental Health Board, Community Corrections Board, the Tax Allocation Board and Board of Public Works. According to MIRS, she also serves as chair of the Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC).
As for the state’s second in command, he described his role in the upcoming campaign this way: “She was basically my campaign manager for my House race so she knows how to do it better than I. Think of me as her supportive spouse.”

And maybe “eye candy” will be added to his official resume if, as expected, he makes a run for governor in 2018.

  1. Is there any question who in the Calley family wears the pants? Julie is becoming the HRC of Michigan politics. I wonder how many per diem payments she racks up being a professional board-sitter?

  2. Boards and Commissions pay a pittance, if anything to serve. They are usually volunteer based. What I wonder is how this mom of three special needs kids has the energy to give selflessly to serve the citizens of Michigan. There still are good people in the world who believe in giving back and putting value into their communities - despite critical sideliners who question their motives.

    1. She does not have three special needs children. She has three wonderful children, and one happens to have Autism.

  3. It's interesting when a woman has goals in politics that the question comes up regarding who is taking care of the children. No one questions what will happen to the children when a man runs for office.
