A country that loses its values, its principles, has lost its heart.
A country that loses its sensible center, its common ground, has lost its mind.

Candidate for Land's RNC seat wants to 'purge' GOP of gays

UPDATE: I've come up with a photo of Sears with the infamous RNC Committeeman Dave Agema (center) and tea party bad boy Doug Sedenquist.

The tea party candidate who has emerged to run for the Republican National Committee seat vacated last week by Terri Lynn Land is, if anything, to the right of RNC Committeeman Dave Agema on the political spectrum.

Mary Helen Sears of Houghton County (located near the very northern tip of the U.P.) is clearly in the Religious Right mold and, as recently as last March, she called for the purging of all gays and lesbians from the Republican Party.

Agema thinks that gays live a "filthy" lifestyle; Sears thinks they are the work of the devil.

Apparently some Republican insiders are so shaken by the prospect of having Agema and Sears as Michigan’s two representatives on the RNC that they’re growing concerned about two mainstream Republicans in the three-person field splitting their votes, thereby allowing Sears to claim victory.
When the GOP State Committee meets to select Land’s replacement, Sears’ competitors are expected to consist of Ronna Romney-McDaniel, daughter of Ronna Romney, and Sandra Kahn who, I’m told, is the aunt of state Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville and the ex-wife of Sen. Roger Kahn of Saginaw Township.

Sears may have some bigoted, far-right views about homosexuality but she has held several GOP posts, including vice chair of the 1st Congressional District Republicans.

On March 31, 2013, a lengthy guest column written by Sears was posted on the Schoolcraft County Republican Party website. Here are some of the most controversial sections of that diatribe:
·        * “How then can we as Christians stay in a party that adopts homosexuality into the fabric of the tent? I say we cannot. Homosexuals make up less than 1 percent of the total population. They must prey on our children to increase their numbers. Why then, would we, as a party, entertain this perversion? We as a party should be purging this perversion.”
·         *Our party is suffering the cancerous effects of the progressive school system. Liberals have long since taken over the once Christian halls of such schools as Yale and Harvard. Even our local universities are a breeding ground for perversions and depravities. Our children are indoctrinated by the ever-droning lies of communist professors.
·         * “Satan uses homosexuality to attack the living space of the Holy Spirit, which is the body of the person.
·         * “By throwing God under the bus we become nothing more than the poor Democrats who have lost their way and, by doing so, have lost their party.”
·         * “If the GOP continues down this trend and stands for perversions and the daily social fad, then I must travel a more suitable road. The GOP will be truly dead and Satan will have had his day.

Her commentary was so severe that, after some readers started raising questions, the Schoolcraft GOP felt obligated to put this awkward note atop of Sears’ column:
“Admin note: The opinions expressed in this article are those of the author. While every caution has been taken to provide our readers with most accurate information and honest analysis, please use your discretion before taking any decisions based on the information in this blog.”
In a 2013 televised interview available on YouTube, Sears talked at length about her views on far less controversial issues. The video was shot by the Liberty Town Hall program at the “Tea Party Pow Wow,” which was held at the Indian casino in Mount Pleasant. The title of event created a bit of controversy in the Native American community of mid-Michigan.

  1. Our sovereign nation was founded on protecting and upholding the unalienable rights of ALL individuals.

  2. For the record I take full responsibility for re-posting this article on our Schoolcraft County GOP website authored by Mary Sears. Posting a story, or a opinion on our website does not mean consensus or we agree completely with the narrative. I put this story on our site to inspire debate - as I often do.

    1. It is her Faith and belief, which is not contrary to the Party Platform. Is it not politically correct to speak truth?

As to being right of Dave Agema, how can you be right of the same truths, beliefs?

But more importantly for all of us Constitutional Conservatives is the fact that both of these Constitutionalists will be 2 more votes for integrity.

Exactly what is the gig here?

  3. The issue isn't Christianity. It's about using your religion to engage in crude and unbecoming actions in your role not as a theologian or religious leader but as a leader of a political party that is legally secular. We shouldn't be looking to politicians for theological or religious doctrine interpretations; that's the job of those in houses of worship.

  4. Well.... on the bright side she has big jugs.

  5. If she wins blame it on her tits.

    1. No... that outcome will squarely be on her "rocks"... as in her dumb as rocks supporters.

  6. Look at Sedenquist's smile in that photo. It's very queer. The worst thing is you these folks engage in sexual acts with their spouses or opposite-sex partners that they decry as sodomy for others to do.

  7. Trying to rally homophobes to get votes. Unfortunately you are out numbered. The tides have changed and it won't work. Sicko's like her. A feeble attemt. This looser will loose. And for God's sake do something about that God awful hair! You look perfectly ridiculous.

  8. Mary Sears: Satan has been working through heterosexual people long before he ever worked through gays. The reason is because they're the ones who keep having GAY babies! You need to take a stand against these couples for carrying on Satan's work before you blame their children.

While claiming religious piety you stand there with stones in your hands ready to cast, given the first opportunity, at LGBT citizens. This is in direct contradiction to the teachings of your own religion. You make a mockery of religion and your "purging" language sounds strikingly reminiscent of the burning of heretics during the middle ages, the Salem witch trials in America and a certain political party in Germany about 80 years ago. You should be kept as far away from government as possible because it is painfully obvious that you have no grasp of religious freedom, don't understand the democratic principles this nation was founded upon and have no capacity to respect any religious and spiritual beliefs other than your own.

Who is your next target - women who use birth control?

  9. Chad has become a tool for a few progressives in the MiGOP. Chad: The militant homosexual mouthpiece and doormat.

Finally, someone is calling for a little bit of basic human decency and dignity!

  11. As a gay man I agree with Ms Sears on one point, teh gays should not be Republicans. I simply extend the class and suggest everyone not be Republican.

  12. 20497 W Second, Ripley, MI - from public records for Houghton County - send the nice lady a gay pride postcard.

  13. When people use passages from the Bible to publicly harm another because of what they consider to be their fallibility's in order to make themselves look and feel smugly superior and righteous than the accusers themselves have a great fallibility problem.
"Let those who be without sin ... cast the first stone."

  14. Right on, Mary Sears! If what she's said makes you feel harmed and makes you become a Hater and a Judger (thinking to yourself it's purpose is to "make themselves look and feel smugly superior and righteous", that's just your conscience talking, telling you you're guilty in God's eyes, and that YOU will be judged. Mary, and the rest of the moral majoity" have every right to practice our consciences publicly. You see, we have a First Amendment that guarantees our GOD GIVEN right to free speech and FREEDOM OF RELIGION, not freedom 'from' religion. Therefore, people who are not religious waive that right because there is no guarantees, no recognized right, to be insulated from religion, nor for the state to advance nor promote any anti-religious positions as somehow being a practice of a religion. This means, if you are unreligious or stand against religion, you have made yourself have less rights than the rest of us. As such, perhaps you should refrain from mis-quoting God's Word out of context out of respect for the rights the rest of us enjoy before someone sues you for violating their civil rights. If you're offended, tough. Go cry yourself silly and wonder why the rest of us are simply out to get you...

  15. Sears is a cretin as are all the religious fanatics who yell and scream about their non-existent invisible man in the sky. What morons these fools be.,
